Each painting is an adventure into the unknown when I start. I carefully plan each one, but I'm not quite sure what the outcome will be exactly. This kingfisher was no different. After extensive searching for just the right quality photo, I found it on e-bird.com and they were so kind to give me permission to use their work in my painting. Even then I knew I wanted a totally different golden light I dove into work. Oh my, this painting had that ugly stage and it was a frightening time, but I kept working and working till many days later the leaves seemed to move in the breeze and the kingfisher took on life. And that golden light of the late afternoon was a real challenge, but I think it worked out. I hope you enjoy "The Golden Hour" in oil on an 11 x 14 Belgian linen canvas.
